Tony Hawk Purchased Bitcoin in 2012 After Reading About the Silk Road Marketplace – Bitcoin News

What is the Silk Road, you ask? Well, it’s a site where you can buy and sell drugs. But, what makes it an interesting story is that it was also a place where you could buy Bitcoins. Tony Hawk was one of the early adopters of Bitcoin, purchasing 0.01 BTC back in 2012, after reading an article about the Silk Road marketplace. Tony Hawk has been a long-time advocate for cryptocurrencies and a member of the XBT Trust, a private investor group that holds Bitcoins and promotes Bitcoin technology.

Tony Hawk, professional skateboarder, has been one of the most famous people in the world for many years. He is an icon in the world of skateboarding and has had several bestselling skateboarding books during his career. In 2012, Tony has purchased bitcoin, the popular cryptocurrency, after reading news about the Silk Road marketplace.

According to McClatchy, when Tony Hawk purchased $250,0000 worth of Bitcoins, he was probably doing so to make a quick buck. However, with the Bitcoin market on the rise, he might have been following the advice of the Silk Road marketplace owner who sold him the currency. “I just wanted to keep the bitcoins in Silk Road,” he told the publication.

Tony Hawk, an American professional skateboarder nicknamed Birdman, spoke about bitcoin at the Bitcoin 2021 conference in Miami and told the audience that he got into the crypto economy in 2012. According to Hawke, he learned about the crypto asset after reading about the Silk Road market. At the time, he thought bitcoin was the future of finance.

Tony Hawk discovered bitcoin in 2012, and in 2014 the professional skateboarder donated some of the money to charity.

Famous skateboarder Tony Hawk spent some time with Bitcoiners at the Bitcoin 2021 conference in Miami last weekend. During his appearance at the event, Hawk talked about how he lived the dream when he skated for a living. He compared this passion to the bitcoin people and said: I got used to the idea that skateboarding was for losers. Growing up, I felt like an outsider. I felt like I had found my community, my tribe. At the conference, Hawke discussed the cryptocurrency revolution with Jeremy Gardner, co-founder of Augur. The skateboarder also revealed that he will be auctioning off 50 limited edition Bitcoin skateboards for charity. There is also a single limited edition skateboard signed by Hawk and engraved End Fiat. In a speech to an audience in Miami, Mr. Hawke that he discovered bitcoin during the existence of the Silk Road trading platform in 2012. The skateboarder said he had read about the Silk Road situation and was fascinated by the technology. I read about the [Silk Road] mess when it all happened, and I was intrigued by the payment component they had, and that was obviously Bitcoin, Hawke said during his speech. It had anonymity, but also the idea that it was very fast and international, and to me it was the future of finance, so I immediately started researching how to buy bitcoins. I have not been on the [Silk] Road, he added. But I bought bitcoins in 2012. The popular skateboarder continued: I kept pretty much everything. I didn’t do anything special with her. Of course, I’ve observed this. I kept my bitcoins, and the Water charity was the first one I knew that accepted bitcoins as a donation, so in my infinite wisdom, I gave them four thousand dollars in 2012.

Special sessions with Hawk help fund skateparks worldwide

When Hawk donated the funds to the charity, it was in 2014, and the organization’s CEO, Scott Harrison, has detailed that they were sold at a price well below the value of BTC today to fund the organization. Hawk also met with some colleagues who had a special pass. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of these special passes will be donated to The Skatepark Project, a non-profit organization that helps build local skateparks around the world.
